We all enjoy visiting farms and have done so all over the country; Gorgie City Farm in Edinburgh, Trethorne Farm in Devon and Ashford Farm near Ludlow with Grandad and Granny and Tatton Park nearer to home.

15. Play in the Snow

IMG_9578Harry enjoyed making a snowman like Olaf; he wasn’t such a fan of walking in the snow though as he felt it was too cold and too wet!

We regularly go for a walk across the road, past the chickens and over the railway bridge.  En route, there is a perfect Pooh Sticks Bridge!

29. Explore a Cave

While on holiday in Cornwall, Harry explored Merlin’s Cave with Daddy when we visited Tintagel.  Along with Isolde and Uncle Will, they also discovered a Gruffalo cave in Port Isaac.

Harry loves to climb, and trees are no exception!  He is keen to climb higher and higher, especially with a little help.

4. Build a Den

31. Hunt for Bugs

11017665_10155286188700515_2662812511391125659_nWhen visiting the gardens of Quarry Bank Mill, The National Trust give children ‘tracker packs’ with which to hunt for bugs; for the little ones, sturdy magnifying glasses are just as good.  Harry was an expert after using a magnifying glass at nursery, he was however keener to search for a tiger than insects!

During the brief spell of nice weather this summer we visited the farm at Tatton Park.  Harry’s favourite things were the pigs and playing in the dens in the woods.  He was very happy but muddy by the end of it!

6. Run around in the rain

Fun in the rain

We were lucky to have a fantastic weekend camping with really good friends in The Cotswolds over May bank holiday this year.  It was the first time the children had been camping and they were so good and loved it.  The first day it poured with rain but Harry just got dressed up in full waterproofs, (and the obligatory hula flower necklace thanks to Mya) and ran around in circles shrieking with laughter.  It is amazing how wonderful the simple things can be, both to children with no expectations of what they should expect to be provided with as entertainment, and to the adults watching them and letting go of the stresses and worries of daily life in the process.

21. Picking blackberries growing in the wild

Harry helped pick blackberries last year but this year he was very involved.  Unfortunately he ate far more than went into the basket but he had a great time and we still had plenty to make a nice supply of blackberry and apple jam when we got home.
